Burkina Faso’s Minister of Youth opens the Regional Communication Forum

On Wednesday April 2, 2008, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Youth and Employment, Hon. Justin Kouataba, officially opened the Regional Communication Forum . The ceremony took place at Notre Dame de Lorette in Ouagadougou. Also present were, Hon. Salif Sawadogo, the Minister for the environment and Mr. Seydou Zagre, Permanent Secretary in the office of the Speaker of the Assembly.

This event, that was targeted at the French-speaking National Scout Organizations in the Africa Region benefited from media coverage on television and in the newspapers.

"I totally support this approach and I am glad that such an opportunity – to be trained in communication - is offered to the National Scout Organizations", said the Minister of Youth and Employment, who was also grateful to WOSM (World Organization of the Scout Movement) for having chosen Burkina Faso to host the forum.

This colourful ceremony kicked off at 10 a.m. with some entertainment by Scouts, followed by the introduction of the delegations by Mr. Euloge Ishimwe - Unit Manager, Communications for the World Scout Bureau, Africa Office.

Afterwards, Mr. Seglaro Abel Somé, President of the Association des Scouts du Burkina Faso, delivered opening remarks, followed by the viewing of a film on the image of Scouting.

Before the opening speech by the Minister for Youth, the World Scout Bureau's Director for Brand, Communication and Media, Mr Richard Amalvy, addressed the audience on the social utility of the Movement: "Scouting, what for? " he questioned before answering: "To educate young people to play an active role in society".
