REPORT ON PRESS RELEASE SCOUTS AND OTHER YOUTH ORGANISATIONS DEMAND PEACEFUL POST ELECTION COMMUNITIES IN GHANA

The Ghana Scout Association as part of its MOP project titled “Scouts promoting peaceful elections in Ghana” organized a press conference after the several pockets of post-election violence.
The event was held on Wednesday, 19TH December, 2012 at the Ghana International Press Center, in Accra and attended by about a 100 people (Scouts, other youth organizations and the media)
The objectives of the Press Release were;
1.       Make a statement calling for peace after the 2012 elections
2.       Officially unveil the MOP project
3.       Interact with the media
4.       Continue to rebrand our image to Ghana
As already noted, the event was held to make a confirmed statement from the Scouts on the series of post-election violence dotted in most of the cities, this created panic and fear for most members of the two main political parties but also alarmed most Ghanaians who went about the normal everyday business. The press conference also took the opportunity of the many media houses to inform them of the MOP project and some of the activities done and others yet to be implemented in the regions.  Partners to the Peace project gave brief solidarity messages to support the Ghana Scout Association in not only the press statement but with the entire peace project. These partners were present;
1.       Ghana Girl Guides Association
2.       Head of State Award Scheme (HOSA)
3.       Young Men Christian Association (YMCA)
4.       Young Women Christian Association (YWCA)
5.       Ghana Red Cross Society
6.       National Cadets Corps
7.       Student and Youth Travel Organisation (SYTO)
8.       St. Johns Ambulance
Significantly, they were many media house from the Television, Print, Radio and Online that gave the leaders of the Ghana Scout Association and partners the platform to talk and discuss on issues affecting the youth in Ghana and on the election. The testimonies of several scouts and friends who watched or read these interviews and snap shots from the televisions called with contentment.

It assumed for these regions, the message went as far as expected.
