Scouts Guatemala delivers their First Better World Seminary
From January 31 to February 2, the First Better World Seminary of Scouts Guatemala was held in the San Jorge Muxbal, Guatemala City.
During the year 2019 the World Programs: Messengers of Peace, Scouts of the World Awatd and the World Scout Environment Program, had a boom in Guatemala, which led to decide by the end of the year 2019 when they decided to consolidate the idea of forming a Better World Team. The team that is now integrated, initiated the idea of conducting a national seminar that brought together all the youth and adults involved in the World Programmes and the Youth Programme to train them on different topics.
The event hosted 40 young participants from different regions of the country in addition to the participation of young Scouts from Nicaragua and El Salvador. For the development of the agenda, the National Scout Organization requested the support of the World Scout Bureau - Interamerican Support Center through the Services Platform.
The service included the delivery of sessions related to Interamerican Policies with emphasis on Youth Engagement and Diversity and Inclusion, and the importance of creating national policies on these issues; How to improve gender equality in the NSO and the use of the HeForShe action kit; Finally, a presentation session of the Dialogue for Peace Program was also held.
During the weekend, meetings with the participants of the other NSOs were successfully carried out to promote the WOSM Service Model and to identify other possible services they may need.
The Service Model continues to be a useful tool for Scout Organizations that seek to strengthen capacities to offer better activities and programs to their young members. Through this digital platform, it is offered high-quality and effective support through 13 Services related to the central areas of the Scout Movement, from Adults in Scouting, Safe from Harm, Good Governance and Growth.
The young explorers of Guatemala, during the three-day seminar, participated in the different sessions with high commitment to the future actions that needs to be followed to promote Diversity and Inclusion, Youth Engagement, Gender Equality and finally the SDGs.
