Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019

On 16th to 20th of August 2019, there was a series of Asia-Pacific Region’s meeting on membership growth. This event was divided into two (2) major event which was on the 16th to 17th of August there was an APR Key Leader Meeting on Membership Growth. The APR Key Leaders consist of five (5) main countries which were Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and India that shared a common goal of the Membership Growth in each of the participating country in Asia-Pacific Region. The meeting was discussing on the elements and key points that will be brainstorming in the main event on 18th to 20th of August, the Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019 organized by the Asia-Pacific Support Centre of the World Scout Bureau, in collaboration with the Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia. All the Key Leaders managed to gain some valuable knowledge and experiences during the meeting and came up with a tremendous amount of idea on membership growth.

 

In a total of 28 participants from 19 countries in Asia-Pacific Region appointed by their NSOs/NSAs as National Membership Growth Coordinator has come to the Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019 held at the YMCA Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With the intention to coordinate the Asia-Pacific Region’s membership growth coordinator in one place, also to review and formulate the latest growth strategies for Asia-Pacific Region’s target on membership growth from 2019 to 2021. During this seminar, the appointed coordinators identified their need to ensure the scouting movement in each of the participating NSOs in the Asia-Pacific Region will continue growing. In hope, all the appointed coordinators manage to gain some valuable knowledge and fully equipped to take on these challenges as mentioned by the Director of Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019, Dr. Haji Mohd Azlan Bin Ab. Jalil during the presentation of the seminar’s report at the end of the closing ceremony of Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019.

 

Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia is currently investing in the young generation to play an important role in society and is able to lead and actively develop themselves to make positive changes in society. This is a good initiative to expose the younger scouts in the real-world setting. As you can see in Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019, the seminar was conducted by these amazing young people who have a high passion for shaping the future of society. A total of 14 young people from Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia has taken on an important role as Secretariat / Seminar Staff and managed to complete all tasks. Their achievement can be seen as the seminar’s participants are satisfied with all of the good service of hospitality provided from accommodation, transportation, food even the seminar’s material. As mentioned by Mr. Elston Hynd, the Regional Scout Committee in his personal facebook page, a complimentary comment toward young people from Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia; These amazing young people have organised everything for our meeting / workshop. Well done to all of you! This is was a great effort of Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia to boost the membership growth in Malaysia to allow young people to learn by experiencing a great deal in organizing events said Mr. Elston during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Growth Seminar 2019.

 

Also, present Honourable Haji Rashid Bin Mein, Deputy Director of Sport, Art, and Curriculum, Ministry of Education to witness for himself the ability of young people to implement the program, the skills of young people that are in line with the goals of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). In a total of five (5) days program has opened the eyes of scouts not only in Malaysia but around the world that young people are more than capable to organize the international level of an event such as Asia-Pacific Region programs. This was indeed a great opportunity for young people to venture further unleash the great potential in leading a developmental stream of competency with new great ideas and opinions. Therefore, the involvement of the young people in greater scouting movement must always have full support guidance from the adults.
