Brunei Scouts Held 'Towards 100 Years of Scouting’ Seminar
THE Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) held ‘Towards 100 Years of Scouting in Brunei Darussalam Seminar’ at its headquarters to commemorate its 86th anniversary and to celebrate World Scout Scarf Day yesterday.
Guest of honour, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin officiated the ceremony.
The goal of the seminar is to give the scout members a chance to come up with ideas and proposals to enable the association to make more achievements.
Other objectives include giving the members the chance to review and re-evaluate the success, strength and gaps in the association, identify the need to further enhance the image and achievement of the association, and to recognise the previous scout leadership services and support the country’s Vision 2035.
In his welcoming remarks, PPNBD President Haji Matussin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba highlighted that ever since its establishment, the association has produced many successful members in the public service sector and private sector as well as uniformed personnel and successful entrepreneurs.
“In less than 14 years, the PPNBD will reach 100 years old, and there are definitely more challenges to face, various expectations and changes needed to be realised, and obviously there is a need for the association to see improvement in image and performance,” he said.
The president also shared that almost 200 Scout members in various levels throughout the country were registered to participate in the one-day seminar, with the outcome from the discussion to be formulated as a seminar resolution.
During the seminar, a keynote address was delivered by the guest of honour, who was later invited to tour an exhibition.
There was also a presentation of working papers entitled ‘Entreprenuership’ from DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) and ‘History and Direction of PPNBD’ by PPNBD Chief Commissioner Haji Badar bin Haji Ali, as well as group discussions on several issues such as enhancing commitment among scout leaders and scouts members, among other items.
Also in attendance were PPNBD’s Vice Presidents Pengiran Abdul Wahab bin Pengiran Haji Hassan and Haji Damit bin Haji Chuchu, members of the National Scout Council; the PPNBD Chief Commissioner; members of District Councils; scout commissioners; assistant district commissioners; Scout leaders and Rover Scouts.
