No doubt, peace lives on to the 39 participants of the Messengers of Peace Team Bangladesh Gathering, held at the National Scout Training Centre in Mouchak, Gazipur, from 21 to 25 August 2014.
Participants rated the gathering as excellent after realizing how in a simple way, Scouts can truly be Messengers of Peace (MoP) by inspiring their peer groups toward taking peace actions and making it part of their daily lives.
During the gathering, participants were oriented about the historical background of the MoP Initiatives -- ways how they can introduce it to their Scouts and non-Scout friends and the role and responsibilities of MoP Coordinators/Peace Ambassadors.
Significant part of the gathering was the field activity organized for the participants as a practicum. These participants in five groups were engaged in a 3-hour orientation, who inspired and encouraged 250 young people to be Messengers of Peace. Everyone described the activity full of fun and anxiety. During the orientation, video presentations, ‘Ale le’ song and network games were great attractions to the young people.
Bangladesh Scouts International Commissioner Mr. Shafique Alam Mehdi was the guest of honor at the closing ceremony who witnessed the fire of enthusiasm among the participants. In his remarks, Mr. Mehdi said that he believed that the participants who are young Scout leaders and Rovers, from the 12 Scouting regions, will carry out the flames of peace through the MoP Initiatives.
World Scout Bureau/Asia-Pacific Region Regional Director Mr. J. Rizal C. Pangilinan was at the closing ceremony and congratulated Bangladesh Scouts for the significant development made at the Mouchak National Training Center and how it improved a lot in providing services to their members. He further challenged the participants to stand to this call of becoming the Messengers of Peace after acquiring additional knowledge from the gathering. He urged them to continue passing the peace message until the goal is achieved and seen in the community.
The Regional Director also encouraged them to share the good work that they are doing in www.scout.org to inspire others to replicate the work.
Honorable State Minister Mr. Md. Shariar Alam, MP, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, opened the gathering and said that Scouting plays an important role in the society, that younger generation can learn many things from it including how to live in harmony. Bangladesh Scouts Chief National Commissioner Dr. Md. Mozammal Haque Khan was also present and commits his full support to the MoP initiatives in Bangladesh.
International team of facilitators comprised of APR Management Sub-Committee Vice-Chairman Berthold Sinaulan (Indonesia), Scout Leader and Project Manager for World Bank Mr. Madhusudan Awala Subramaniam (India), and MoP Local Coordinator Ms Devarasu Sriraksha (India). APR Director for Development Support & Finance, and Regional Office MoP Coordinator Mr. S. Prassanna Shrivastava, co-directed the gathering with APR Director for Admin Resources and Administration Mr. Thian Hiong-Boon. From the national level, Mr. Md. Tauhidul Islam directed the gathering, supported by NSO MoP Coordinator Mr. Anwarul Islam Sikder and a team of volunteers and professionals from Bangladesh Scouts.
Participants concluded the gathering with their commitment to carry out the flames of being the true Messengers of Peace.
