Fun & exploration for Team JOTI 2017 at Chan Wa II Seremban
OCT 21, 2017, SEREMBAN - Team JOTI 2017 comprising Cubs from 35th West Seremban Scout Troop, Scouts and Senior Scouts from 75th West Seremban Scout Troop gathered on JOTI Saturday (Oct 21, 2017) to explore and participate in various JOTI activities, hosted by a high school, SMJK (C) Chan Wa II, in Seremban, the capital city of Negeri Sembilan.
Despite the week long school break, Team JOTI 2017 gathered at this high school at 7.30am for morning assembly and roll call. After a Safety Briefing and Equipment Check by Scouts Association of Malaysia Negeri Sembilan Assistant State Scout Commissioner Chooi Yew Tzen, everyone got quickly organised and got online.
The participants ranged from 11 to 16 years old. Interestingly, despite his age, the youngest, a Cub Scout at 11 years old, is a proven JOTI veteran and the most experienced, having participated in JOTI activities for the past three years. He used his experience to help the older Scouts in using the JIDs, completing the JamPuz Bingo Game and others.
The team made new friends from Australia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Great Britain, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, USA, Taiwan, Turkey and many more. It was an eye opening experience for those who haven't tried their hands at webchatting using ScoutLink.
The virtual campfire session about Scouts Go Solar was also of interest to everyone and now these Scouts have a new project at hand - solar powered lanterns!
The Scouts during the seven hour session were fueled by pizza - lots of pizza - and kept fully hydrated. The Scouts decided to setup their base, outdoors, outside from the comforts of air-conditioned rooms, and at the school lobby.
Even the high school's Senior Assistant (Co-curiculum) Teo Ming Hui came to see the JOTI excitement herself. It was a wonderful day which ended at about 4.30pm in the evening. Everyone was given an at home assignment and will regroup on JOTI Sunday (Oct 22, 2017) morning.
