The Heydar Aliyev Center, A Great Place for the 41st World Scout Conference Participants
What a lucky coincidence for the participants of the 41st World Scout Conference (WSC) which will be held at Baku Congress Centre (BCC) in Baku, Azerbaijan, 14-18 August 2017. The BCC itself already a modern building and one of the largest and best-equipped modern congress centers in the world.
The BCC includes set-up of spaces and rooms will be used during the World Scout Conference for the different session and activities. The entire convention center is covered by a high-speed telecommunications and data network, including Internet connections.
Not only the BCC as the main venue of the 41st WSC 2017. The host committee, the Association of Scouts of Azerbaijan (ASA) with support of of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan, also choose the Heydar Aliyev Center (HAC), which is side by side of the BCC. This second venue will be used for lunch during the event.
The HAC building is a very futuristic architectural building. With total of 57,500 m² building complex , the HAC designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid and noted for its distinctive architecture and flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles.
With height of 74 metres, the HAC was opened on 10th May 2012. The center is named after Heydar Aliyev, the first secretary of Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982, and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from October 1993 to October 2003.
The HAC houses a conference hall (auditorium), gallery hall, and a museum. As mentioned in the Wikipedia, The HAC represents a fluid form which emerges by the folding of the landscape’s natural topography and by the wrapping of individual functions of the Center. All functions of the center, together with entrances, are represented by folds in a single continuous surface. This fluid form gives an opportunity to connect the various cultural spaces whilst at the same time, providing each element of the Center with its own identity and privacy. As it folds inside, the skin erodes away to become an element of the interior.
The participants of the 41st WSC 2017 will have a good opportunity to know more about Azerbaijan just by visiting the HAC. Just walked outside the BCC, everyone can easily goes to the HAC and learn more about the history of Azerbaijan. The museum also described different stages of Heydar Aliyev’s life and work.
