Best practices in good governance and Scouting

From the 9th - 10th April 2014, the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional staff and volunteers working directly with NSOs in the region went through a training on the understanding of the concept of the Global Support Assessment Tool at the Regional offices.

The GSAT assesses compliance of a National Scout Organization, on the national level, towards best practices in good governance and Scouting. In other terms it checks if certain processes, procedures and policies are in place and if they are being implemented.

It also improves an NSOs understanding on best practices in good governance and help develop specific capacity strengthening projects. The tool is inspired by the SGS NGO Benchmarking with focus on the core Scouting business elements such as Youth Programme, Volunteers and Adult in Scouting.

The training was facilitated by Abir Koubaa, Manager, NSO Capacity Strengthening, World Scout Bureau and Paul Parkinson, Global Support Team and member Asia Pacific Scout Committee and attended by Gilbert Mussumba, Africa Scout Chairperson, Dr Wayne Davis, member Africa Scout Committee, Frederic Kama Kama, Regional Director Africa Regional Office, staff and volunteers.
