The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) is currently holding five-day Messengers of Peace Team Philippines Gathering from 10 to 14 February 2014 at the National Headquarters in Manila. The gathering promotes the MoP Network in the Philippines.
BSP is the second National Scout Organization to help build up leaders at the grassroots level who can promote MoP Initiatives in their respective areas.
There are 49 participants representing 34 local councils belonging to 10 Scouting regions all over the archipelago. Participants are mainly from the Rover Scouting and Senior Scouting sections, with some adult leaders and council staff joining.
Mr. Rogelio S. Villa, Jr., BSP Director for Field Operations directs the gathering, assisted by NSO MoP Coordinator Yasser S. Sarona and other BSP senior leaders. S. Prassanna Shrivastava, Director for Development Support & Finance, Uzair Kamal, Development Support Manager from World Scout Bureau/Asia Pacific Region, and
Ms Venny Indri Christiyanti, National MOP Coordinator from Indonesia also serve as resource speakers.
BSP Senior Vice President/Acting Secretary General and Regional Scout Committee Member Mr. Wendel E. Avisado inaugurated the opening ceremony.
Sessions include globalisation of the MoP Network, project management and how to inspire and encourage young people to be messengers of peace. A field activity will be held as a practicum for the participants to visit four schools and promote the MoP Network. Participants must encourage about 100 young people in each school to get them registered on the MoP Platform applying what they have learned from the gathering.
