Tragic accident kills Scouts in Indonesia
I am on an official visit to our largest Scouting nation in the world, Indonesia. Yesterday afternoon a police truck carrying 62 Scouts to a campsite lost control and overturned resulting in the death of 4 Scouts, the driver and his helper. 31 Scouts are seriously injured and are battling for their lives, while 22 other Scouts suffered minor injuries.
The Scouts were going to a weekend camp at the Carita Beach when the accident occurred at Mandalawangi, Pandeglang district, Banten region (120 kms west of Jakarta).
I would like to offer personal condolences to my brother and sister Scouts and the families of the deceased. I want to join everyone in their prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured, particularly those who are currently battling for their lives.
One cannot imagine what the families and friends of the deceased and injured Scouts are going through at this moment. May everyone find peace in their hearts through prayer and belief in their personal religious teachings.
Everyone remains in my thoughts and prayers.
