“Scouts Promoting Non-Violence among the Youth” is a Peace project being implemented by the Scouts of Georgia in the framework of the Messengers of Peace Programme. The project is targeting youth aged 13-16 years old to help raise awareness and build capacity of the youth mediators to serve as a positive force that can change the attitude of youth towards all kinds of conflicts and to encourage higher levels of peer support by sharpening children’s knowledge of non-violent conflict resolution, decision-making and dialogue.

In June 2012, two Scout groups visited the Robert Schuman European School of Tbilisi and organised Scout activities for the students. This was another useful tool of the MOP project to promote and extend the Scout Method and involve more youth in the Scout Movement of Georgia.

“Scouts have shown us how independent and confident we can be when involved in Scouting. I’ve admired stories of our fellows about their patrol lives, Scout activities, camp life and other adventures. I didn’t know what Scouting was before, and I now will do my best to join this great Movement” – Elene Kakabadze, European School student reported.

Barbara Davituliani is a student of the European School – “Scout games and activities were funny and entertaining. I’ve learnt lots of new, useful things. Now I know how to put up a tent and I’m looking forward to the Scout camp to experience more outdoor life. Peace and friendship are in Scouting, I’m sure about it”.

MOP beneficiaries will take part in a Scout camp in July 2012, where they will acquire more Scout skills and will be given the opportunity to join the Movement.
