Promoting a dialogue on Peace

Inspired by the Gifts for Peace initiative, Dominic Simard a Scout from Quebec, Canada, has created a website designed to give Scouts from around the world the opportunity to facilitate discussion about the way they see Peace in the World Scout Movement.

Beginning at the 21st World Scout Jamboree, which united 40,000 participants from 155 countries, in the summer of 2007, Dominic challenged 25 Scouts from different countries to "photograph peace" throughout the event.

This participative photography project was developed in conjunction with Dominic's Masters in Social and Cultural Anthropology (Laval University, Quebec) and aims to bring new light to a social subject that seems to transcend both barriers of culture and time: Peace.

On his website, you can see photos that were taken by these young Scouts, which are to be accompanied by comments describing how these pictures represent peace in their opinion. This experience aims to further the debate on peace and its social representations.

Dominic also participated in the World Scientific Congress in Geneva in November 2007, where he decided to expand his project by seeking greater participation from other Scouts around the world.
