Lithuanian Scouting (Lietuvos skautija) is a nonpolitical, non-governmental organisation, open to all residents of Lithuania, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, or social circumstances. As an organisation engaged in non-formal education, LS seeks to help young people reach their full physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential, and become responsible citizens of their local, national, and international communities. The motto of LS is Fun with a purpose!
With over 2,000 members, Lithuanian Scouting is the largest scout organisation in Lithuania. It is divided into 10 regions, with groups operating in both larger cities and smaller villages all across the country. The head of the organisation is its Chief Executive, working closely with the National Board, the National Council, as well as the Ethics and the Regulatory Boards.
For Lithuanian Scouting as a non-formal education organisation, our youth programme is the centre of all activities. Its central values are set forth in the Scout Law and the Scout Promise and it is based on the scout method, which emphasises learning-by-doing and teamwork. With the help of adult leaders, young people embark on a path of exciting discoveries, progressive achievement, and increasing responsibility, learning to cooperate, to lead, and to take initiative along the way. Scout patrols, troops, and groups meet for weekly meetings, hikes, camps, and training sessions, they also represent the organisation in local events and volunteer in activities initiated by other organisations. There are many outdoors activities, with camping and hiking happening not only in the late spring-summer season, but also in autumn and winter.
