2nd SAARC Scouts Friendship Camp
Pakistan Boy Scout Association has implemented a very important initiative of the Messenger of Peace in the form of MOP Project called 2nd SAARC Scouts Friendship Camp.
The objectives of the project were
1. To provide platform to the youth from 8 countries of South Asia for understanding each other and share work jointly for the promotion of Friendship & Peace to address the common issues as poverty, unemployment, poor health condition and disasters.
2. To establish cohesive environment of peace among the youth of South Asian countries through inviting Scout youth both male and female in the camp and 1000 outside the camp to share experiences and improve their strategies for mutual cooperation.
3. To establish electronic communication group to continue friendship and exchange peace ideas and establish links with other youth groups.
In this project many activities were performed during the conduct of the 2nd SAARC Scout Friendship camp, which includes Friendship Activities, Youth Forum, Treasure Hunt, Talent Hunt, Hiking, Exhibition on Culture & Food, Camp Fire, Visit to AllamaIqbal Open University, Youth Forum – Integration with Non-Scout Youth, Cultural Show at Pakistan National Council of Arts and also Film Show:, Musical Show, Jamboree on the Internet, and visiting to Islamabad i.e. The Pakistan National Monument & Museum, LokVirsa and Museum, Faisal Mosque, Plantation for Green South Asia, Nepal Day and Closing Ceremony at the end.
Acting President of Pakistan, Syed NayyarHussainBukhari, Chairman Senate, of Pakistan was the Chief Guest in the Opening Ceremony of the camp. Scout Cadets of Pakistan Scouts Cadet College Batrasi presented Guard of Honour on his arrival. He was welcomed by Mr. Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, Chief Commissioner, PBSA and Chairperson SAANSO Chief Commissioners Forum.
Arena displays were presented by all young people from participating countries Provincial Association of Pakistan Boy Scouts Association show their culture through cultural presentations. Peace Song was presented by the students of Bloom Field Hall School, Islamabad narrated by Ms. AmeenaBatool, Girls in Scouting from Punjab. In his address, Syed NayyarHussainBukhari appreciated PBSA for holding National and Regional Events in Pakistan with the cooperation and support of World Scout Bureau.
During this Camp, SAANSO Chief Commissioners Meeting was held on 17 October, 2012 at conference room of Federal Shariat Court. Meeting held in two sessions. First Session was chaired by Mr. Chencho Dorji, Chief Commissioner, Bhutan Scouts. He welcomed all the members and thanked for their cooperation during the last year. Second Session started under the Chairmanship of Mr. Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, Chief Commissioner, PBSA, being the newly Chairperson SAANSO.
Chief Commissioners of South Asian Association of National Scouts Organization also met with the President / Chief Scout of Pakistan alongwith Youth Rep. from Pakistan and Nepal.
The activities greatly contributed in improving the understanding amongst the young people (which is not evident through social media) and cross countries relationships of Scouts.
