Scouts in the Philippines pioneer the very first Virtual National Scout Youth Forum

The first ever Virtual National Scout Youth Forum for Luzon kicked off at 9 o'clock in the morning of April 17, in the midst of the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Jose Eduardo C Delgado, National Program Commissioner and Chairman of the Youth Program Committee of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, "[the] Scout Youth Forum is organized to fill the need and clamor for youth participation in the decision-making processes in the Scout Movement, especially in matters and issues directly affecting them.”

This year, Scouts from all over Luzon gathered virtually to make policy recommendations about issues that directly affect them and propose resolutions about relevant programs, projects and activities that will create impact for the young people and their respective communities.

“The Boy Scouts of the Philippines is putting a premium in youth engagement as we seek to involve more young people in policy-making. Over the course this is National Scout Youth Forum, focus on our strategic priorities and ask yourselves whether what we currently have in place -- our programs, our structure, etc - are enough or needs more refinement,” said BSP’s Chief National Commissioner Cedrick G Train during the activity’s.

On another note, J Rizal C Pangilan, Regional Director of WOSM’s Asia-Pacific Region lauded the efforts of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines as it continues to thrive in its programs and activities despite the global health crisis. “It is very impressive to see that the BSP is keeping Scouting alive with its various virtual events being conducted throughout the country even at the time of the pandemic, and even in this new normal.”

The Scout Youth Forum is an educational tool that empowers and inspires young people through a participatory approach, helping them to develop skills in decision-making which can be used within Scouting and in society.

The 2021 Virtual National Scout Youth Forum for Luzon spans from 17 to 19 April 2021. The Visayas (Central Philippines) leg of the Scout Youth Forum is scheduled on 20-22 April while the Mindanao (Southern Philippines) leg is scheduled on 26-28 April 2021.
