The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, is spreading around the world, and the peak of the epidemic has yet to come to its end, the Scout Association of Hong Kong (SAHK) suspended all Scouting activities including group meetings, and training, until the situation goes back to normal.

Serving the community has always been in the hearts of Scouts and leaders, a number of them are volunteering in different quarantine centres, supporting in logistics and delivering of equipment.

Meanwhile, Scouts at home are making use of the available e-learning to keep up the passion and continuity of learning. SAKH has launched the “Hong Kong Scout – Health Guard” programme, that has the elements of Sustainable Development Goals and Messengers of Peace.

Scouts are encouraged to join the Programme to keep them active and to remain positive. One can be a Health Guard Ambassador if he/she completes a list of tasks according to age/section.

For example, assisting in cleaning the house for Grasshopper Scouts, while Rover Scouts and leaders can create a blog and helping in health information campaign. To make sure that everyone is connected to one another, various online Scout group meetings are being organised by leaders.

Chief Commissioner Joseph LAU encouraged all Scouts to stay healthy and remain positive, and reminded them of the bravery displayed by St. George and his noble spirit to help others. Over the years, Scouts in Hong Kong had always been active in providing community services during Hong Kong’s historical events such as the general strike in 1922, the World War II in 1941 and the fight against SARS in 2003.
