Jasiri (Rovers) for Peace - Nairobi County Messengers of Peace.
Every Scout is a Messenger of Peace in his or her unique way. For Lord Baden-Powell, peace and service have always been at the core of scouting and this fact can evidently be deciphered from his last Message about doing a “good deed to create Peace in the world” which was in delivered in 1941. The Kenya Scouts' Association through the office of the County Youth Leader, Nairobi County, successfully conducted four day training on Messenger of Peace training which ran from 11/7/2019 and successfully came to an end on 14/7/2019 at Rowallan National Scouts’ Centre. Rovers (Jasiri) were the main participants of the training. Preference for Rovers over the other sections may be out of the indefatigable strength and energy as young adults as well as a higher level maturity than the other sections.
The training was thorough and intense and the Rovers once again had an opportunity to awaken their scouting spirit of brotherhood and enthusiasm. The training was of great benefit more so to us as Jasiri scouts from the Nairobi County, considering the fact that we are usually surrounded by some challenges. As Rovers we were able to benefit fully since the training did not only talk about Messengers of Peace but also touched on some other topics which we believe will equip us with relevant skills and knowledge to enable us play a constructive role in the society. These other areas which we as Nairobi Rovers were trained on include: Better World Framework, Scouts for SDGs, Online Safety, Dialogue for Peace, Project writing and Management Cycle, The Rover Programme etc.
As Nairobi County Rovers, the training was of great benefit unto us because we were able to learn a lot of new things such as how to become a Messenger of Peace. Aside from the topic Messengers of Peace, we were also able to acquire various new skills and knowledge especially on the Rover Programme and the SDGs. Rovers in Nairobi County are now able to align most of their projects with the achievement of specific SDGs, thanks to the training. On a personal level the training has boosted my morale and increased my knowledge on the SDGs and the Rover Programme. Important to note is that the training also provided an avenue for interaction among the Rovers since we were from different sub-counties. We made friends and we hope that the friendships made will play an important role towards working together as Rovers to foster peace and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Creating a Better World. Bravo! To the whole team.
