I believe in the power of correct health information and accessible service provision, after assessing how best I could do this I found that when people do what they like (hobby or interest) they never retire or get tired and so I came up with the project MY TALENT MY VOICE.. And to implement myself and fellow scout found a youth organization: INUKA SUCCESS YOUTH ORG ;( an organization founded and led scout volunteers) with the vision innovative awareness creation and advocacy. Our approach is through participatory community theater performance and football drills methodology. Through this approaches we are celebrating over 8479 young people reached since 2015, 1157 tested HIV since 2016. And 39 PLWH enrolled as ambassadors of the program. The theater team conduct outreaches within the school, markets, local gatherings and chief Barraza’s while in Football for HIV we trained football coaches who the coach their teams using our drills and in some cases we do it ourselves. The coaches are assess by our members and the player are given routine questionnaire to assess the level of understanding and HIV knowledge,
We us football drills such as HIV v/s CD4 to educate the youths on how adherence to treatment help boost CD4 counts hence lower viral load. This methodology has been very effective since its practical in the pitch. The players enjoy their talents and at the sometime they get correct information on positive living. Other football drill coaching with HIV message are:
KEEP BALL KEEP HEALTHY- The HIV message, keeping ball is all about adherence hence high cd4 count and this will enhance better health.
FIND PEP- This drill test speed of the prayers but in HIV it teaches on barriers young people face when they want to find PEP which is a prevention measure to HIV.
PASSING IT ON- In football is all about passing and in football its hall about passing the correct information about HIV treatment and prevention.
CALL FOR IT- The drill in football is all about communication between the players and in football it’s all about negotiation prior to sex, agreeing on whether to have sex and whether to us condom. This help the individual to learn that they have a right to say no to sex and no to unprotected sex.
SHOOT THOSE STI- The drill in football test accurate shooting while in HIV education is about correct and consist us of condom when having sex with someone to do not know his/her HIV status.
SUPPORT a FRIEND- In football this all about passing and supporting a fellow player while playing by opening up and calling for the ball. In HIV education it is all about supportive those PLWH, the support from players represent the love, good diet, treatment, acceptance etc that they need from the society. This are but a few: We over fifty drill surrounding, RELATIONSHIP, HIV PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND ADHERENCE AND POSITIVE LIVING and all we need is support to reach more young people.
At the end of every ten drills, organize for HIV TESTING TOURNAMENT which we expect to have all our players plus the general public to know their status, during this time the theater team also educate the society and the young people are given opportunity show their tall in a more creative way that informs the community in HIV and the best are a warded. This initiative have been receiving partial support from ministry of health in terms of HIV service provider, world vision Kenya, Kisumu county scout association Tackle Africa and local individuals and community based organization. We still need your support to reduce the HIV in prevalence in Kisumu County which is at 19 percent, and the age which is highly affected is youth age 15-24 and the young adolescent girls and women takes 75 percent of the prevalence.
