Tabitha Cambodia House Building Project
Day 1- We were at the International Airport at 4am to depart Perth at 6:40am. Then stopped to Singapore airport for 3 hours then arrived to Phnom Phen at 6:30pm. We then went out to try culture food like frog legs.
Day 2- We went to one of the marketplaces, the local orphanage that was full of toddlers and extremely young children, the bookstore and the King Norodom Sihamoni’s Palace, we were lucky enough to visit the Kingdom on the occasion of his 64th Birthday Anniversary. His Majesty had a strong belief for the Lord Buddha and the four sublime blessings which were Longevity, Good Health, Great Happiness and Wisdom.
Day 3- We visited the Tabitha store, then we had a tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museums which was also known as the killing fields. They were unique places which reflected the barbarous and cruel crimes between 1975 and 1979. About 20,000 people including foreigners were imprisoned and brutally executed. 129 mass graves bear testimony to their unspeakable crimes and nearly 200 who were tortured. There was a total of 3 million victims of the Khmer Rouge regime. There were only 12 confirmed survivors and one of them stayed at the museum to talk about his life as a prisoner.
Day 4- We arrived to a small village to help build houses for a full day from the materials that we helped fundraise for.
Day 5- We continued building houses and we managed to build a total of 12 houses.
Day 5- At the end of the day there was the ceremony where we gave them sheets and the whole family would thank us.
Day 6- We then took a flight to Siem Reip to to visit the Angkor Wat Heritages which was once the largest cities in the world during the 12th Century with 130,000 inhabitants who lived there for many generations. Now Angkor is still and active spiritual site for Buddhists and citizens who engage in daily worships, prays and meditation. It was also the place that Angelina Jolie was filmed in Tomb Raider. We also got to feed the monkeys.
Day 6- Got lost and separated from the group on many occasions.
Day 7-8- Left Sien Reip Monday morning, flew to Singapore, had 7 hours to explore the Singapore Airport before our flight arrived. Arrived to Perth at 5am on a Tuesday morning.
