GIVING A GREEN LIGHT TO PEACE
Following the 2007/8 post election violence in Kenya, the country suffered a big blow to its stability on peaceful coexistence of its citizens. With a vast number of different tribes constituting our country Kenya, the only danger to their unity is political radicalism that often occurs when the elections are around the corner. This project therefore is meant to sensitize the youth to vote for peace and in peace since they are the main voters and also the most exploited group in perpetuating violence in such times.
The main aim of the project is to sensitize the youth to promote a peaceful voting environment for all Kenyans before, during and after the general elections.
The title of the project is “Giving a green light to Peace”
The theme of the project is “We are One”
The venue of the project is at Rowallan Scouts Camp in Nairobi, Kenya and also to be implemented with the local youth at their local communities.
The project targets youth both in scouting and outside scouting between the ages of 18 and 25 years old.
The project duration is 3 months with a possibility to continue thereafter.
The project will involving planting of one tree by each youth which will symbolize that we are all one and politics nor elections should not serve to divide us. Instead we should unite more and make the world a better place through local action. Each participant will make a commitment to take care of each tree they plant until it comes of age to be able to grow on its own. This will symbolize the presence of sustainable peace in one's community.
This will be replicated to other youths and ensure each young person is engaged and involved in the march for peace and a greener environment.
