Scouts: "Always there for the Community"
Fifty Six Scouts participated in the four day annual Thimphu festival as messengers of peace. Thousands of people gathered to watch the four day festival dressed in their best costumes to watch the dances, songs and mask dances. While ordinary people could come and watch the festival.
Yet there are certain sections of the community who do not get the opportunity to watch the grand festival.
The fifty six scouts along with MoP Bhutan Initiative coordinated to help 13 people with disabilities to watch the festival. The scouts arranged transportation and seats for the people with disabilities. All the thirteen people were on wheelchairs. Since Bhutan doesn't have separate facilities for wheelchairs, scouts literally carried these people from the road till the giant fortress where the show was being held.
The scouts not only helped these people with disabilities but also help in securing seats for elderly people, but managed the crowd during the festival. They also helped children to watch the show safely.
The voluntary work began from 7:00 am and ended at 7:00 pm in the evening. Scouts ensured that the venue is clean after each day of celebration. Scouts cleaned up the whole area after the festival.
The four day festival was an excellent opportunity to show the people what messengers of peace is all about. Thousands of people gathered in the courtyard of the giant fortress were thrilled by our gesture and commitment to serve the community.
