With the closing of the International Leadership Training in Harare, Zimbabwe, Scouting in Africa marked milestone in its efforts to empower young people with the necessary skills they needed to become the leaders of change. This is part of the continuous efforts to build their capacity and tap into their talents and skills to support and innovate Scouting.

Over the course of three days the Scouts underwent a vigorous training curriculum, facilitated and led by fellow young people under mentorship of staff from the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre.

“It gives me great joy to know that the next time we are having this kind of training we will not depend on the Africa Support Centre Team as the already trained Scouts are talented enough and are rightly placed to support the training,” said Mary Waweru, Director Operations at WSB Africa Support Centre.

Scouting is in the business of making leaders who can inspire and influence positive change in their communities and beyond. The more skilled young people and volunteers with good leadership skills we have, the greater the social impact of Scouting across the globe. Singular actions being done are coordinated to form a massive wave of positive change.

The Regional Director, Fredrick Kama-Kama urged the participants to act saying, “Remember your training, do not forget it in Zimbabwe. Take advantage of your NSO setup and use these skills you have acquired to create a huge difference in society.”

This is the fourth International Leadership Training being conducted in the region following the close collaboration with the Inter-America Scout Region which – from which the concept is adapted. Scouting has a commitment to support shaping of Scouts into formidable and inspirational leaders. The next ILT will be held on 13-16 December 2018 in Burundi.
