The Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Ahmad Alhendawi, announced today the appointment of Mr David Berg as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the World Scout Bureau (WSB). David will take on the role from 1 September 2019.

The COO role is introduced in the WSB in order to further streamline the management of the teams in the Global Support Centre in Kuala Lumpur and support the daily operations of the World Scout Bureau.

“I look forward to working with David in his new role. David’s track record of successful projects management as well as driving change and innovation, strong understanding of the WSB’s operations, and commitment to continuous improvement, all uniquely equip him to perform ably in this role and advance the work of One WSB,” said Alhendawi.

David joined the WSB Senior Management in 2013 as the Global Director for Organisational Development. He contributed to innovating WOSM’s capacity strengthening processes for NSOs, streamlining institutional and constitutional processes within the World organisation and bolstered the Messengers of Peace global grant management system. In 2018, he was part of the core team that conceptualised the WOSM Services, a streamlined approach to ensure all NSOs have access to the same qualitative set of support resources from World Scouting.

Prior to joining the WSB, David was a Director for Oxfam, one of the largest adult volunteer organisations in Belgium. In 2012, he joined the WSB as the Director for Strategic Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation. During his tenure, he supported the review and deployment of the Strategy for Scouting - Vision 2023 as well as to the establishment of GSAT, WOSM’s quality standard for National Scout Organizations (NSOs)

”I am honoured to serve in this new leadership role. The WSB has deployed a range of new initiatives over the last years, and I look forward together with the team of Global Directors to streamline these further in our daily operations so we can serve NSOs at maximum capacity. And of course, I am also excited to support Ahmad directly in charting the further course of the WSB worldwide.”

With David’s transition to the new role, the position of the Global Director of Organisational Development becomes vacant and is now advertised on scout.org/jobs with a deadline of 30 August 2019.
