K-Pop music unites Scouts during NCT DREAM performance at Jamboree

The cultural unity that would be apparent in the next 12 days of the 24th World Scout Jamboree was kick-started once K-pop band, NCT DREAM, stepped on stage to perform for thousands of Scouts, creating a fantastic gathering of young people from around the world. The high-energy show from one of Korea's most popular teenage bands had the Jamboree crowd cheering and dancing as fans were treated to a five song set on the first day of the event.
Among the songs performed was the band's latest single Fireflies which delivers a positive message of lighting up the world together. The hit is topping the charts with proceeds from the single going to support Scouting's programmes around the world through the World Scout Foundation.
Having performed in several countries including Hong Kong and Malaysia, the band’s first performance in the United States was in West Virginia at the 24th World Scout Jamboree.

“It was such an honour for us to take part in the World Scout Jamboree and it was such a good experience for us to meet and talk with friends from many different countries,” said NCT DREAM member Renjun.

The performance reflected a common theme of the World Scout Jamboree highlighting how music can unlock a new world and bring people together across cultures and languages. As influencers with a global fanbase, the Korean pop group is helping to shine a spotlight on Scouting, introducing a new audience to the values and impact of the Scout Movement.

“It’s amazing to see the band this far from home. We feel very proud that a Korean band is playing here at the Jamboree. It is also amazing that we flew this long way, and now we get to see them perform here,” said Heo I Jeong, Lee Seong Mon, and Oh Min Su, Scouts from the Republic of Korea.

The live streamed performance was picked up by dozens of Korean pop culture and media outlets showcasing the Jamboree to a new audience on the other side of the world. A number of videos from the performance also went viral on social media, reaching the group’s young international fanbase, introducing them to Scouting and the exciting activities of World Scout Jamborees.

“Scouts from all over the world came to watch them. This shows how music is a universal language because although not everyone in the crowd understands Korean they still cheered loudly for NCT DREAM,” said Leona, a Scout from Malaysia.

The band’s members expressed their excitement of performing for thousands of Scouts from around the world. Jeno, another member of NCT DREAM said:
“It was such a beautiful memory for us to meet with all Scouts gathered from around the world. We thank everyone who welcomed us with the brightest smile ever, which gave us such positive energy. We were especially happy to perform the special piece 'Fireflies' for you guys! Hope it made all of you happy, too!”

NCT DREAM’s performance highlighted the unifying power of music, brought the Jamboree to a wider young audience around the world, and paved the way for young people to embark on a 12-day cultural adventure of a lifetime.
