Bhutan Scouts building capacity towards Globalizing MOP Network

The Bhutan Scouts Association (BSA) adopted the Messenger of Peace Initiatives of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 2012. In the last 3 years, BSA has been promoting the initiative, however gradually but with firm dedication. To endure the rapid move at the grass root levels, BSA organized a local leader training program called “Globalizing Messengers of Peace” to strengthen the network and reach out to more Scouts in the country.

The training is being held at Damphu Resort Tsirang, located in the hilltop of Southern Bhutan from 27 to 31 October 2017. With 47 participants from 24 District, and Scouts Executives and Rovers from the 10 colleges, this workshop aimed to train and equip District MoP Coordinators with knowledge and expertise in achieving the target to strengthen Scouting in communities through the MoP Initiative.

Through the workshop, the participants will brainstorm and formulate a 2-year Action Plan (2017-2019) on MoP Initiatives. They will also discuss the role of National MoP Coordinators in bringing positive change in the country.

The workshop was made possible with the support of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. With the enthusiastic cooperation of Bhutan Scouts led by Mr. Goling Tshering, the Chief National Commissioner of BSA along with his team, the workshop is aimed to a promising success. The Chief Commissioner himself will be attending the entire workshop to extend his dedication and commitment in advancing Scouting in Bhutan.

The workshop is also made possible with the cooperative teamwork of Bhutan Scouts International Commissioner, Mr Karma Tenzin as Event Director, his team, the MoP National Coordinator from Gerakan Pramuka (Indonesia), Ms Venny Indri Christiyanti and the support team from the Asia-Pacific Support Centre.

The workshop was officially opened by a ceremonial Buthanese tradition led by the Chief Guest, Mr. Namgay Dorji - Vice President of Tsirang District and a Woodbadge holder.

"We are heading to the critical times and have seen the rapid growth of globalization in the world today. My sincere appreciation to the Scout Leaders’ initiatives in promoting Scouting to provide and play a healing music to the world, which also supports Bhutan’s national vision to see happiness in every community", Mr. Namgay Dorji in his keynote address.
