In Leyte province in southern Philippines, a new troop of street children joined the Ticket to Life, making it the 35th troop to be registered under the project, now having 1,200 members in eight countries across the Asia Pacific Region.

 

Marikina City Council in the Philippines launched a campaign to support children who have been in conflict with the law and are currently under the social welfare department. The project, using the same title as the APR flagship project – Ticket to Life, will provide Scouting programme to these children as a means of giving them hope and confidence for a better life. With an initial enrollment of 30 children, Marikina City Chief of Police Romeo S. Magsalos has volunteered to head the project.

 

Ticket to Life (TTL) Project country coordinators are meeting from 5th to 8th October 2010 in Mirigama, Sri Lanka, to evaluate the progress of members in terms of their advancement in the Scout ranks. Members under the TTL are largely children living in the streets due to poverty, neglect or abandonment.

 

To address the increasing number of internally displaced persons or IDPs in the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh, Unicef Balochistan in collaboration with local government, and Balochistan Scouts established a temporary learning center to engage school children in educational activities.

In the outskirts of Zamboanga City, an island in southern Philippines, a group of children living in make-shift shelters near a garbage dumpsite, found new things to do in Scouting other than sorting and selling garbage.

 

Genève, 13 mars 2009 – A l’ocassion de la Journée du Scoutisme Africain, le Scoutisme Mondial lance une campagne de dons “aider les jeunes à s’aider eux-mêmes”, avec le soutien du Fonds Scout Universel (“U” Fund). Ce fond a été établi en 1963 pour fournir des moyens pour tous les membres du Mouvement Scout qui veulent aider des Scouts d’autres pays dans leurs activités de développement.

 

On 17th January 2009, Scott Teare, Director of International Division of Boy Scouts of America, visited one of the troops in the Philippines under the Ticket to Life project (TTL) for children under difficult circumstances, which is partly funded by the United States Foundation for International Scouting (USFIS).

At the evaluation and planning workshop of the Asia-Pacific Region's Ticket to Life (TTL) project, which aims to educate street children through Scouting, The Honorable Gopal Man Shakya, Minister of Youth and Sports of Nepal, expressed his appreciation to the work of Scouts and their role in building communities and assured Nepal Scouts of his continued support to Scouting.
