In an atmosphere of peace and friendship, Scouts from several countries gathered together in Malaysia from 18th to 24th August 2008 for the 3rd International Peace Jamboree.

Situated at the western coast of Malaysia, the Melaka Scout Camp became the playground of over 400 young Scouts and Leaders from Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Yemen, from all religions and races and they all enjoyed the beauty of living and learning together.

Coinciding with the 100 years of Scouting in Malaysia celebrated this year, Prime Minister Badawi graced the opening day accompanied by his wife and Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, and Chief Scout Dato Seri Dr. Haji Shafie and shared that his Scouting years taught him good values, great experiences, excellent knowledge and a long list of friends. He encouraged the Scouts that their dedication to Scouting will eventually make them great leaders. On the same day he released pigeons as a symbol of peace.

Other leaders who also attended were World Scout Committee (WSC) member Eric Khoo, former WSC member Habibul Alam, Regional Scout Committee member Dr Mohammed Mukhyuddin Bin Sarwani, Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam President Mr Pehin Dato Ali Mohd Daud, among others.

Throughout the event, the Secretary General of IUMS Dr Zuhair Ghunaim and Deputy Secretary General Hussain Sahal were at the helm of the jamboree. Members of the IUMS Executive Committee both from Malaysia and from other countries were there to give support.

For the camp, it was planned for a wide variety of activities such as traditional games, river cruise, trip to Kuala Lumpur, Youth Forum, bike hike, exhibition, amateur radio and cultural performances that foster cultural understanding, brotherhood and peace among Scouts from all religions.

At the closing ceremony, World Scout Bureau/Asia-Pacific Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed delivered the remarks on behalf of the region and recognized the participation of the overseas participants from the Arab region. An Asia-Pacific Region exhibition centre was set up to provide the participating countries with different promotional materials to know more about the region. The success of the event can also be credited to the huge publicity support given by the local media.

This peace Jamboree was jointly organised by The Scouts Association of Malaysia and International Union of Muslim Scouts ( IUMS ) which is an affiliated body to WOSM consisting of Scout associations of Muslim countries from all over the world. The event also had the full support of the Melaka Scout Council and the Melaka State Government.

The last two IUMS Peace Jamborees were held in Turkey in 2004 and in Sweden in 2006. It is proposed that 2010 IUMS Peace Jamboree will be held in Switzerland.
