Motivation in Scouting
Motivation is an issue in everything we do in life and so, is also an important part of Scouting, especially for Leaders. Have you ever had a great idea but struggled to convince others it was a good one? Or had a task to do but didn’t find it very interesting or attractive?
For Scout Leaders, motivation comes in many forms. Self-motivated to go the weekly meeting, clean the Scout Den, develop the programme, organise a large international camp, etc. You may also be responsible for motivating others, Leaders and members.
This paper is written for all Scout Leaders who want to know more about motivation and, more specifically, about motivation in Scouting. Whether working at national or group level, or anywhere in between, understanding motivation and knowing how to motivate yourself and others is vitally important.
This Euro.Scout.Doc discusses what motivation is, why it is important in Scouting and how motivation works at the different levels in Scouting. It is a good resource for Leaders looking for ways to motivate, with key insights to help discover what works for you and the people around you. We believe that motivated Leaders are happy Leaders!
