Siranouche Germain (24 April 1986 – 11 April 2012)
Siranouche has been a Scout for several years and at such a young age held various responsibilities as a volunteer at the national level. Siranouche was the National Commissioner of Development of Scouting in Haiti and has been contributing largely to the expansion of Scouting in Haiti since the devastating earthquake in 2010. Just a week before her death, she was actively supporting a national level training course. She was the founder of a Scout Group of which she was the Group Leader.
Siranouche was engaged to be married in July this year. The sudden and unexpected loss of Siranouche has left everyone shocked. The International Commissioner of the Association Nationale des Scouts d'Haïti, Ms. Mathieu Renide said “Siranouche, or Sisi as we knew her, was a very friendly person. Her sudden death is a very big loss for us”.
A few weeks before her death, Siranouche Germain represented WOSM as our youth external representative at the YABC Americas Summit 2012 organised by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. A shocked Ms. Heini Altonen, Youth Coordinator IFRC Americas Zone office, Panama, who was one of the organisers of the event said, “Siranouche´s warm, caring and joyful personality deeply touched us and made an indelible impact on us. She will be greatly missed and remembered by her peers from the YABC Summit as a wonderful, true friend and an encouraging motivator!”.
