World AIDS Orphans Day
Sponsored by FXB International, an NGO dedicated to combating poverty and the AIDS pandemic, World AIDS Orphans day will occur on 7 May. According to FXB, there are 15 million children orphaned as a result of AIDS. In addition to being especially vulnerable to all forms of exploitation, these children face financial difficulties, disease, and stigmatization.
FXB initiated World AIDS Orphans Day in 2002 to raise awareness about the plight of these orphaned children and FXB encourages Scouts across the globe to “raise their voice” for them. Symbolic gestures, such as forming a Circle of Hope with friends or other activities that can be found at www.7may.org, can be undertaken by Scouts to demonstrate their support for AIDS orphans.
Showing support for victims of the AIDS pandemic is in keeping with Scouting's principles and desire to make the world a better place. In fact, AIDS awareness is a key topic for many of this year's Gifts for Peace.
There are currently 13 Gifts for Peace projects that focus on HIV/AIDS which are working to raise awareness, support those affected, and better educate towards prevention.
Participate in World AIDS Orphans Day to mobilize support for AIDS orphans!
