The 12th Pan-American Jamboree, taking place in San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina, was inagurated in an incredible opening ceremony on 9 January. It was attended by more than 7000 Scouts from the Americas and Europe.

Scouts in Mexico City collected 1 million cans to make the world's biggest Scout emblem. Money from recycling will be for Tsunami Scout Aid.
The World Scout Seminar on Partnership was held in Bangalore, India 25 February to 1 March 2005. The seminar was held 10 years after a similar meeting in Marrakech, Moroco, which resulted in many projects of cooperation and partnerships among Scout organizations and with other organizations.

This year World Health Day will focus on maternal and child health. Millions of mothers and children still die needlessly in pregnancy, childbirth and the first years of life.
Milan, Italy, 8 March 2005 – An agreement has been signed today between the Bocconi University in Milan and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) to conduct research into associations' management styles and the link between governance and values. The research will include an evaluation of the results obtained and will be compared with similar initiatives in other youth associations which have adopted management models. The project will involve courses, exchanges and joint training.

Those who were in Geneva at the World Scout Bureau today paused to mark Founder's Day and Thinking Day. The group included those from many countries who were attending a planning meeting for the next World Scout Moot, as well as the staff members of the Bureau, and some Geneva Scouts.

The "Gifts for Peace" programme for Scouting's Centenary in 2007 was the subject of discussions with Dr. Mohamed al-Rasheed, Minister of Education for Saudi Arabia who met with officials of the World Scout Fouundation on behalf of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah.

More than 2 million Muslim pilgrims are in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj. The Hajj requires visits to Mecca, Mina, and Arafat where rituals must be performed along the steps of the journey. Every Muslim strives to make this pilgrimage at least once in his or her life time.
