"H.E. Mrs. Randa Beri in Egypt for Young People of Special Needs
Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Aly Moselhy, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, H.E. Mrs. Randa Beri, wife of H.E. Mr. Nabeh Beri the Speaker of the Lebanese Assembly and Chairwoman of the Lebanese Society of Caring for the Handicapped, inaugurated the 5th Arab Gathering for Executives responsible for Programs for Young People of Special Needs.
Dr. Atif Abdelmageed, Arab Scout Regional Director, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Scout Committee, Mrs. Aziza Helmy, Consultant of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Dr. Raafat Abdel Aziz, representative of the Arab League and H.E. Ambassador of Lebanon in Egypt attended the Gathering. Moreover, participants from 16 Arab Scout Organizations took part in the Gathering namely; Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Palestine, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Emirates, Morocco, Egypt and Yemen. Representatives from Childhood Rescue Agency, Caritas Association, Nas Association, Intellectual Education Schools, Sondous Association, the Sudanese Association for the Deaf, the Arab Council for Childhood and Development were present in the Gathering.
During this vital event, the participants discussed the different types of disabilities and the role of scouting in assisting young people of special needs in addition to the methods of societal rehabilitation suitable for young people of special needs. Furthermore, the role of the Arab, regional, international and governmental organizations as well as civil community associations and the promulgation of laws concerning young people of special needs were also discussed.
Mrs. Randa Beri held an open dialogue with the participants who proposed a number of valuable issues. She highly appreciated the efforts exerted by the Scout Movement in providing tangible services in the Lebanese society. She stressed that no other community group in which children and youth could feel safe beyond the family except the scouting groups.
Mrs. Beri held several meetings with Dr. Atif Abdelmageed, Arab Scout Regional Director, Dr. Ziad Al Refaay, UNFPA Representative and Dr. Thae'ra Shalan, Director of Programs in the the Arab Council for Childhood and Development. She also paid a visit to the Rehabilitation Center of the Armed Forces, which is the one of the largest centers in the Middle East for providing services for young people of special needs, for exchange of experience purposes.
It is worthy mentioning that the participants visited Alexandria to get acquainted with the projects supported by the Scout Movement in the field of caring for young people of special needs.
