On-line resource to support programme planning for leaders in the UK -
The Youth Leadership Training Workshop - The workshop was held in Maseru, Lesotho, on 25 to 28 April 2005. Twenty-six young leaders between the ages of 18 to 30, from 10 NSOs of the Southern zone participated. The aim of the training is to equip young leaders and Rovers with the essential management and leadership skills for personal effectiveness, as well as to create awareness on contemporary issues affecting the working environments, as viewed from the Scouting perspectives. The workshop also offered the opportunity for participants to share local social issues on HIV/Aids, drug abuses and peace, prevalent in their respective countries. The objectives of the workshop were as follows: explore the challenges and opportunities for youth seeking leadership positions, design a strategy to promote youth involvement in Scout leadership, and explain the youth involvement strategic priority of WOSM. After the workshop, the participants attended the Zonal Conference held in the Sports Center on 30 to 1 May 2005. They formed part of the NSOs’ teams serving as delegates and observers. The conference has provided great opportunity for these young leaders to play an active role in decision-making at both national and regional levels.
Recruitment of Adult Volunteers - a new resource from The Scout Association - The Scout Association (UK) has updated its pack to support the recruitment of adults. The resource aims to help people find the adults they need now and recruit the adults that will be needed in the future. It will also help to find the most suitable roles for new volunteers which will hopefully help the new recruits to be motivated and stay longer in Scouting.
