South Africa Welcomes Fellows

In April 2007 Baden-Powell Fellows gathered in Cape Town, South Africa for the 53rd Fellowhip event, in the presence of His Majesty the King of Sweden, Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation. The event was unique because of the local Scouts.

South Africa is where Scouting's Founder Robert Baden-Powell tested his belief that young people can lead their peers and change the world.

It was a stunning Fellowship event! Aside from the marvelous gala dinner and five-star treatment from Garnet de la Hunt and his team, the most impressive aspect was the interaction with wonderful, energetic and amazing young men and women in the South African Scout Association.

These Scouts were among the most impressive we have ever met during years of such Fellowship events. Their stories of surviving the struggles of the townships, their work to help their peers avoid the scourge of HIV/AIDS and their overwhelming sense of hope touched all of us.

Personal stories of some of the young people, and Fellows, are the focus of the Annual Report 2006 published by the World Scout Foundation.
