Luxembourg Scouting was born six years later, in 1913, thanks to the initiative of Joseph Tockert, a local teacher. Today, there are more than 28 million Scouts throughout the world, with over 7,000 in Luxembourg. Each patch in the peace quilt was made by a group of 5-10 Scouts and Guides. They decorated these with their wishes for the future, and the majority chose a peace theme. More than 5000 patches were submitted and the final result is a peace quilt made out of 600 patches. The theme of this very special event was – ‘Knowledge, Thrill and Friendship’. The train journey kicked off from the port-city of Chitagong, on 28th June with a total of 3000 Scouts and Scouts leaders of the Bangladesh Scouts taking part in the Jamboree. The 21st World Scout Jamboree in Southern England, taking place until 8th of August, is a good opportunity to start to involve young people in the programme.
