Curitiba 5th February – Yesterday the World Scouting delegation continued their visit, in preparation of the upcoming World Scout Conference, by the evaluation of the conference center and all the lodging options. The afternoon allowed for some protocolary meetings that, show the important support that the Union of Scouts of Brazil enjoys with the municipal, regional and federal authorities.

Curitiba, February 4, 2010 – A delegation of the World Scout Committee and the World Scout Bureau arrived in Curitiba, Brazil on February 1st to meet the 39th World Scout Conference organizing Committee. John Neysmith, Member of the World Scout Committee, Luc Panissod Secretary General of WOSM and members of the delegation visited the the totality of the sites that will host the delegates of the 160 National Scout Organization, in January 2011.

‘Cancer can be prevented too’ – World Cancer Day 4 February 2010

Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world, killing more people than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Each year, 12 million people receive a cancer diagnosis and 7.6 million people die of cancer. If no action is taken, the worldwide cancer burden is projected to reach 26 million new diagnoses in the year 2030 and 17 million deaths, with the most rapid increases occurring in low- and middle-income countries.

’Cancer can be prevented too’ is a global campaign being launched in the lead up to World Cancer Day on 4 February by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), custodians of the World Cancer Declaration, to increase public awareness on the prevention of cancer and how a number of simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of developing cancer later in life.
