This is Indonesian traditional way of husking the rice called "nutu halu" (Sundanese language). Half dozen of women husk rice grains together; creating rhymes and music, as well as chit chat, gossips, and informations. As PRABUHI leaders we acknowledged that this is also traditionally social interactions event in the village to exchange and transfer information, knowledge, even stories, fairy tales and poems. This is simply how Sundanese villagers in the old times become Prabuhis; or being "reading volunteers" for their own community. In the picture; two of my colleagues try to do it with fun.
