The 1st World Scout Education Congress – positioning education at the core of Scouting

The 1st World Scout Education Congress will take place from 22-24 November at the B P International House in Hong Kong. This milestone event will strengthen education in Scouting as the core business of our worldwide Movement. This event is for volunteers and professionals working to support the Educational Methods (Youth Programme and Adult Resources) in Scouting at various levels, particularly the World, Regional and National Levels.

The core business of the Scout Movement is to provide education to children and young people. In today’s world, the needs and aspirations of children and young people are changing and they are themselves situated in the dynamics of a fast changing society. In order to respond effectively to these changing needs, the Scout Movement’s Vision of Creating a Better World challenges us to rethink the education we offer, and its need to adapt or evolve.

The 1st World Scout Education Congress will bring people together to share, discuss and debate the experiences and expertise in Youth Programme and Adult Resources from over 200 countries and territories where Scouting exists. The event will also invite inputs from experts in the theory of education and from representatives of other youth organisations offering educational programmes, to give their perspectives.

Online and onsite participation
The Congress will be a good example of both on-line and on-site participation and collaboration, achieving equal involvement whether one is participating physically at the event itself or through an online platform participating live from anywhere across the globe. Various online platforms are currently being developed for this purpose.

Daily themes
At the 1st World Scout Education Congress, the three days will progress from one main theme to another:
1. The life and society we prepare for
2. The education we provide
3. The impact of Scouting in the life of young people and the communities
