Children in New York give their input into the UN study on violence against children.
World Scouting participates in the UN Study on Violence Against Children
Shana McElroy Muland, WOSM representative to the UN in New York City was amongst the group of young people who re-convened in NYC from May 23rd-26th to provide input for child-friendly materials and report for the United Nations Study on Violence against Children.
This international project started in 2001 to look at violence committed against children and young people across the world and what can be done about it.
Hundreds of children and young people all over the world took part in events to give their views on:
- What violence is faced by children around the world
- How violence affects children
- What needs to be done to prevent all forms of violence against children
- How best to help children who have faced violence
- What children can do to protect themselves from violence
- What are the causes of violence against children
The Study will help the UN, governments, communities, parents, children, young people and organisations working with and for children, understand more about violence and what can be done to stop it.
