January, 2005
The "Gifts for Peace" programme for Scouting's Centenary in 2007 was the subject of discussions with Dr. Mohamed al-Rasheed, Minister of Education for Saudi Arabia who met with officials of the World Scout Fouundation on behalf of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah.
The delegation carried a message to His Majesty the King of Saudi Arabia from His Majesty the King of Sweden, Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation.
The Gifts for Peace Programme was inspired by HRH Crown Prince Abdullah three years ago when he addressed Arab and World Scouting leaders when they visited him during the Arab Region Scout Conference.
The programme encourages all 28 million Scouts to undertake speical projects which contribute to peace and understanding in their communities. Thus far Scout organizations in 60 countries have announced preliminary plans for projects they plan to carry out in 2005, 2006, and 2007 - the Centenary of Scouting.
