2007: Scouting's Centenary

Scouting started in 1907 with an experimental camp for 20 boys. Today, Scouting is a million times bigger and involves girls and boys, men and women from every origin, religion and culture, and nearly every country in the world!

2007 has been a fantastic year for Scouting! Scouts have run exciting programmes, amazing events and incredible projects, showing the world what Scouting is really about and how, together, we can make a difference.

2007: What next ?
Now we should capitalise on all that we have accomplished - learn from our experiences and build on these for the future. 2008 is the start of a new centenary. We need vibrant quality programmes to meet the needs of more young people, we need dedicated adult volunteers and we need to constantly improve our communications in order to raise our profile and encourage more people to get involved!

Over the next couple of months we will develop these webpages further with information, interviews, ideas and resources to help you build on 2007 and look ahead to national centenaries. All of the webpages related to 2007 (Gifts for Peace, Scouting's Sunrise, Join-in-Centenary, archived Centenary news, etc.) can still be accessed in this area.

Gifts for Peace
The Gifts for Peace projects have shown us just how much can be achieved when we work together. Collectively, these projects represent a truly unique contribution to society on the occasion of our 100th anniversary. As we move into 2008, we will be thinking about how we can build on the Gifts for Peace. A small working group will lead this work, supported by the World Educational Methods Committee.

Gifts for Peace is a key programme for all Scouts to tackle local issues and make a difference in our local communities - a fitting way to celebrate our Centenary.
