Earth Hour

Where? Dendrarium Park
When? 31.03.
What? Earth Hour 2012

Saturday 31st March 2012 from 20.30 to 21.30 will be the Earth Hour 2012. For one hour, millions of people across the world will turn off their lights at those hours and World Scouting joins in our continued support to this initiative. WOSM invites all Scouts around the world to join this global initiative by turning off your lights and taking part in activities that demonstrate your concern for the environment.

At 8.30 PM (local time) on Saturday 26 March 2011, lights will be switched off around the globe for Earth Hour. Every household of the over 31 million Scouts in the 161 member countries of WOSM all over the world, can set a global record by coming together in action for a common cause – the planet. BP said ‘ Leave this world a little better than you found it’ yes; you can do it by just going ‘beyond the hour’. Please be in solidarity with the distinguished members of World Scout Committee and the World Youth Advisors as they lead by action in Geneva at this time and date.

Scouts around the world switched off for Earth Hour on the 28th of March 2009 in a worldwide demonstration of a commitment to take action for the environment. Scouts in at least 45 countries participated in Earth Hour, engaging with their family, friends, classmates and communities to share in this world initiative in partnership with WWF. Scout youth members officially presented the results of Earth Hour to Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at an official UN meeting in Bonn, Germany.

One simple act. One huge message.

On March 27th at 8.30pm millions of people, 1000s of cities, globally famous monuments...and many Scouts... will all switch off their lights for just 1 hour in a symbolic show of support for our one and only planet.
All Scouts have an opportunity to be part of this global initiative by turning off their lights and taking part in activities which demonstrate their concern for global warming. You can be involved as an individual, with your family and friends, as a Scout Group or as part of your local community.
