Partners at the 38th World Scout Conference
External relations were addressed many times during 38th WSCon Jeju Island in Korea. Workshops were conducted and a report launched on the past triennium and the successes and challenges both of past and also for the future. Many honourable guests were also attending the Conference.
On Wednesday 16th July in one of the conferences workshops around 40 top leaders debated the external relations in World Scouting on all levels. They addressed the challenges that they face in the work of the national Scout organizations. In the future the participants of the workshop hope to find more efficient ways to take care of the relations between their own scout organizations and other in their societies.
As tools to improve the work undertaken in the field of external relations, the participants from different parts of the world saw benchmarking with scout organizations in different countries and using good experiences as means of finding new ways to operate. They also underlined, that good experiences from succesful co-operation with others can create enthusiasm for external relations and gain more benefits for national scout organizations, World Scouting and our the partners.
In addition to the fruitful discussions, there were three presentations in plenary on the topic. Mr Henrik Söderman presented the guidelines for external partnerships and also as chaired the workshop. Mr Farouk Bouraoui from Algerian Scouts shared information on their partnerships with different NGOs, UN agencies and other organizations. Also one of the honourable guests, Dong Eung-Park from the Korean Committee for UNICEF gave a brief input and introduced the co-operation between Korean Scouts and Korean UNICEF thus giving an inspirational example of co-operation that benefits both parties.
WOSM´s Partners in the Conference
Many of WOSM´s partners participated in the Conference. These included, among others, Vice Chairman Linden Egdell and Chief Executive Mary McPhail from the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Dong Eung-Park from the Korean Committee for UNICEF, Hon. Abdourahmane Sow from the World Scout Parliamentary Union and distinguished representatives from SCORE, Kandersteg International Scout Centre, DESMOS, the International Catholic Conference of Scouting, the International Scout and Guide Fellowship, the International Union of Muslim Scouts and YWCA.
