World Scouting joins Accountable Now network to improve accountability and governance practices

World Scouting is pleased to announce that it has joined as the newest member of Accountable Now, a cross-sectoral platform of international civil society organisations working to improve accountability practices through comprehensive reporting and decision-making. World Scouting joins 27 other member-based organisations who are active in over 150 countries, including Civicus, World YWCA and Amnesty International.

The Accountable Now network strives to be transparent and responsive to its stakeholders with a focus on delivering impact. By joining as a member with Accountable Now, World Scouting continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring its governance remains accountable and focused on achieving the mission and vision of the Scout Movement.

World Scouting has signed the 12 Accountability Commitments of the Global Standard for CSO Accountability and seeks to respect human rights, act independently, and ensure participation and diversity. World Scouting will be reporting annually on its economic, environmental and social performance in line with Accountable Now’s reporting guidelines to an independent review panel, and publishing these reports on Accountable Now and scout.org websites.

This exciting membership makes World Scouting part of a global network where we can share, learn and contribute to building the capacity of the civil society in addressing our common challenges and improving accountability within the sector. Together, we plan to share knowledge with National Scout Organizations and look for collaboration opportunities with other civil society organisations with expertise in a number of areas, including an assessment of accountability as it relates to GSAT, WOSM’s quality benchmarking standard, as well as improvements to child and youth protection relating to Safe from Harm compliance.

As we work with the Accountable Now network, World Scouting will collect and share good practices that can support National Scout Organizations in their own accountability work and showcase these examples via the WOSM Service platform as key resources.
