Crystal Open Scout Group: There’s more to community service

29. Jan 2014

It may appear like a regular community work, but for the Crystal Open Scout Troop, there is more.

Rovers under this Scout troop in Bangladesh are working on education, health and environment. Their work has benefitted around 245 poor families living in Dharala, Mogolhat, Lalmonirhat, located 450 km away from Dhaka. Mr S.M. Shahriar, Deputy National Commissioner (Growth) Bangladesh Scouts, is spearheading the troop.

Part of the work was the construction of two new classrooms, veranda and a teachers’ room at the Smrity Roy Primary School which the Crystal Open Scout has established and continue to help in its operations. Rovers render voluntary service there.

Furthermore, the Scout group purchased and distributed books, notebooks, pens, pencils, drawing equipment, among others, enough for 165 students for the next school year.

The Scout group also distributed 80 pieces of blankets among the poorest of the poor families and set up with wells with safe drinking water for 11 families.
