New initiative to support Eastern Europe
Danish Scout Council welcomed four selected associations on the meeting to kick-off new initiative to support development of Scouting and Guiding in Eastern Europe.
In scope of the “Danish project on supporting Guiding and Scouting in Eastern and Central Europe”, and with the support of the WAGGGS and WOSM European Regions, a specific Leadership Capacity Project will be implemented in Eastern Europe in 2007.
The objective of the Project is to develop a training scheme through partnership and to practice training in each country based on shared experiences made by the four participating organizations. Parallel to this the intention is to introduce and develop strategic leadership into the associations in order to increase the number of people with leadership skills. An important part of the project is to put focus on leadership management in order to strengthen the ability of the organizations to raise their membership through more and better-qualified leaders.
The parties decided to invite Guide and Scout Associations from Ukraine, Slovakia, Latvia and The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to participate in the project. Representatives from all associations met with organizers in Copenhagen over the weekend 8 - 10 December, to decide about how the project will be implemented. They presented their strategies, identified priorities, recognized different tools needed and decided about concrete steps to design them. Each association will then organize pilot trainings next year, to test different tools.
We hope that this project will produce tools which will also be useful in other Scout and Guide associations. Also, success of this project can lead to more support to Eastern Europe
