Les Adultes dont nous avons besoin

General Overview

The European Scout Conference held in May 2007 in Slovenia confirmed Supporting Adult Volunteers as one of the three priority areas of work on the triennium 2007 - 2010.

Introduction

Scouting has a great number of very committed adults, but many more are needed. With the support of the Adult Resources Policy, we therefore need to attract, recruit and retain more adults in Scouting. These adults need to be trained to fully identify with the values of Scouting and to share them with young people.

A sound adult resources management system will be one of the key success factors for the European associations in the time to come. If associations fail to recruit, train and motivate capable leaders, the entire delivery system of the youth programme will fail and we will be unable to achieve our mission.

In line with new working methods that have been adopted in the European Scout Region, an Adult Resources Network is established to implement the objectives relating to the priority as identified in the Regional Scout Plan 2007-2010. It is anticipated that this network will grow to encompass, on an informal basis, the input and involvement of many volunteers and professionals working in the field of adult resources from associations across Europe.

The European Scout Plan 2007 - 2010 "Aiming for Excellence" established following:

Aims

  • Explore different approaches to volunteering
  • Promote Scouting as a place where personal voluntary contribution can be rewarding and recognised
  • Revitalise and explore full implementation of the Adults in Scouting modelSupport the improvement of adult training systems in NSOs
  • Assist NSOs in delivering effective support to adult leaders, particularly at local level

Objectives

  • To follow trends in volunteering and support NSOs with findings and tools
  • To highlight the importance of recognizing the contribution made by adult volunteers, both in Scouting and in society
  • To encourage recognition of adult training systems amongst NSOs
  • To build partnerships and organize networks on the effective implementation and use of the Adults in Scouting model
  • To produce tools on development and renewal of training systems
  • To further explore issues relating to transition from youth membership to adult membership
  • To consider the factors that motivate adults to volunteer
