4th update: Rover Peace Baton regional tour continues
ROUTE 1: After a successful peace baton relay in Australia, the Rover Peace Baton headed to Papua New Guinea on 6 November 2006 and started its relay right at the heart of Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea.
From the capital, it will visit the provinces of Lae, Kavieng, Rabaul and Popondetta. After making several stops in different places, it will come back in Port Moresby on 23 November for its official handover to Gerakan Pramuka (Indonesia) at Vanimo – Jayapura border on 03 December 2006.
After Indonesia, the peace baton will be handed over to Singapore on 20 December 2006 through a joint camp in Batam, Indonesia. After Singapore, it will proceed to Malaysia on the last week of December, Brunei on the first week of February, until it finally reaches the Philippines, its final stop.
ROUTE 2: After an overwhelming support received by the peace baton in India coming from Pakistan, it was handed over to Nepal represented by Mr. Anand Gupta, District Commissioner of Nepal Scouts, on 17 October 2006 in Sunauli border during a mammoth rally participated by 1,000 Rovers and Scouts and 100 motorcyclists.
The second Baton received by India from Sri Lanka proceeded to Guntur (Andra Pradesh) from Chennai, where a rally is being held at the District Headquarters of Guntur.
In Nepal, different Peace Baton relays also followed in the districts of, Kaski, Pokhara, Kathmandu, and Rupandehi with hundreds of participants.
Mrs. Sabitri Bogati, Member of Parliament of Chitawan,Mr. Moti Dhakal, Chairman, Nepal Teachers Association and other dignitaries in Nepal and in the respective districts joined and supported the successful relay of the Rover Peace Baton.
On 23 October 2006, Nepal Scouts held their last relay in Parsa District before handing over the Peace Baton back to India on the same day attended by 200 Rovers and Scouts from Nepal and 400 Scouts and Rovers from India who all reaffirmed their commitment to peace.
India will hand over the second baton to Bhutan on 15 November in Alipu Duar Railway Station and will again be handed back to India on 20 November in Siliguri Bhutan Bus Stand.
After receiving the two Batons from Nepal and Bhutan, Bharat Scouts and Guides (India) will handover the two Peace Batons to Bangladesh on 24 November in the borders of Benapole-Petropole, Jassore.
ROUTE 3: After a remarkable relay in Korea, the Peace Baton was handed over to Taiwan on 10 November 2006 during the Opening Ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Rover Advance Training Course.
During the official handover, on behalf of Chief Commissioner of the The General Association of the Scouts of China, Secretary General Dr. George Huang warmly received the baton from Korea, witnessed by 14 other NSO representatives attending the Woodbadge Course and Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed. While in Taiwan, it will journey down to the places of Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien and Taipei that come up with their own relay theme namely, “Bridging Digital Divide” for Taichung; “Information Care of Aboriginal Kids” for Tainan; “Ocean Cleaning and Environmental Issue for Kaohsiung and “Water Conservation” for Taipei.
After Taiwan relay, it will be handed over to Macau on 23 December 2006.
