Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement Scott Teare and Asia-Pacific Regional Director J Rizal Pangilinan visited Indonesia from 7 to 10 February 2014 to personally meet the new Chairman of Gerakan Pramuka (GP), Mr Adhyaksa Dault, who was elected during the Gerakan Pramuka National Assembly on December 2013.
Adhyaksa will replace Mr Azrul Azwar, who served as the Chairman of Gerakan Pramuka for two terms (2003-2008 and 2008-2013). Adhyaksa, who was the former Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia will hold the Chairmanship position until 2018. Secretary General Scott Teare and Regional Director J Rizal Pangilinan were accompanied by Regional Scout Committee member Azrul Azwar, some key leaders in meeting Adhyaksa in his house in southern Jakarta on 9 February 2014.
The Secretary General said that being the largest National Scout Organization in the world in terms of membership, he hopes to keep the strong partnership of WOSM with GP and looks forward to see GP’s active involvement in international Scouting events.
Meanwhile, the Regional Director mentioned of GP’s strong track record in community development, which is a good practice that makes GP a highly visible organization.
Also, accompanying the two visiting leaders were Vice Chairman of the APR Management Sub Committee Berthold Sinaulan, Vice Chairman of the APR Financial Resources Sub Committee Susi Yuliati, and other national headquarter staff.
On the recent accident in Pandeglang, Banten Province of Indonesia happened 7 February, which killed 4 Scouts, seriously injured 31 Scouts, and 22 Scouts with minor injuries, the two leaders sent their condolences to the families of the victims. GP, immediately sent Secretary General Joedyaningsih, with several NHQ staff to Pandeglang, about 4-hour drive from Jakarta.
